MAPPING THE UNSEEN | traces of memory, visions of tomorrow

Dear art lover,

We are excited to invite you to the new group exhibition at Readytex Art Gallery: MAPPING THE UNSEEN | traces of memory, visions of tomorrow, on view from September 5, 2026, during our regular opening hours. Curator and artist Dhiradj Ramsamoedj found his inspiration in a well-known line from the Surinamese national anthem: ‘Hoe wij hier ook samen kwamen…’ (How we all came together here…)

A short line, yet with a far-reaching meaning. In Dhiradj’s own words:
“It is a vibration that touches us, makes us pause and forces us to reflect on the past and who we have become today. It reminds us of the sacrifices our ancestors made and the responsibility we carry not to let that meaning be lost.”

For how can we shape the future without first mapping the unseen? How can we look ahead without being willing to see and acknowledge the traces of the past? These are precisely the questions at the heart of MAPPING THE UNSEEN | traces of memory, visions of tomorrow. For this exhibition, Dhiradj selected works by eighteen artists affiliated with Readytex Art Gallery: “Each work has its own, unique vibration with the theme ‘How we all came together here…'”

The works map the unseen – memories, dreams and stories that shape us, and different visions of what is yet to come. They bring together diverse facets of Suriname, such as cultural diversity, economic development and our vulnerable natural environment. The varied styles, materials and perspectives together form a thought-provoking whole that invites the visitor to see past and present not as separate eras, but as building blocks for a shared, hopeful future.

MuseumN8 2026 – Roots & Routes
This exhibition ties in with the theme of MuseumN8 (Museum Night) 2026: Roots & Routes; Divided past, connected future. This year, too, we are participating in MuseumN8 and will open our doors to young and old on Saturday, October 17, from 6.00 PM to 10.00 PM. A wonderful opportunity to experience the artworks in a special way!
