Continuity, Survival, and Renewal
This exhibition brings together a selection of works by contemporary Surinamese artists that reflect on the cyclical forces of life, culture, and nature. Across diverse materials and forms—painting, drawing, mixed media, and sculpture—the artists explore how memory, identity, and resilience persist through times of rupture and change.
Continuity emerges in works that honor heritage, indigenous worldviews, and ancestral knowledge. Survival reveals itself in the expressions of strength and resistance that echo through personal and collective histories. Renewal unfolds in gestures of transformation, in botanical and ecological imagery, and in the ways artists reimagine myths, rituals, and inner landscapes.
Together, these works form a layered conversation about what endures, what evolves, and what is reborn. Continuity, Survival, and Renewal invites viewers to reflect not only on the challenges embedded in the past and present, but also on the creative capacity to carry forward hope, vision, and meaning.
We invite you to take your time, reflect, and engage with the powerful stories embedded in these works of art.
