Dear art lovers and partners,
Readytex Art Gallery warmly invites you to a fascinating exhibition featuring the work of Shaundell Horton and Sri Irodikromo.
In the duo exhibition WOVEN AND WEIGHTED | weaving life while being bound, the artists bring together works centered on the theme: the feminine aspect in nature. Both artists have long been known for their use of natural materials; they organically incorporate tea, coffee, seeds, and kernels into their works, where circles often play a leading role.
Mother Earth, their primary source of inspiration, offers protection and ensures the recurring process of seeds sprouting, from the darkness into the light, to eventually die after having given new life. This cycle of sun and moon, of ebb and flow, refers to the feminine aspect in nature and to the artists themselves.
Shaundell Horton, born in Guyana, explores the theme of ‘being a woman’ alongside themes such as migration and environmental change in works that speak to both personal and collective memory. Sri Irodikromo uses natural pigments and symbolic patterns to evoke femininity, ancestral memory, and collective identity, fueled by the cultural diversity of Suriname.
The exhibition WOVEN AND WEIGHTED | weaving life while being bound offers you an intimate journey through the cycles of life, loss, and rebirth, where each work invites silence and reflection on one’s own connection to the earth.
