Dear art friends,

The main hall on the first floor of Readytex Art Gallery is graced with an extensive display of ceramic artworks made by Hanka Wolterstorff. A beautiful collection that you must see!

Hanka Wolterstorff’s compositions come about very organically, driven by the urge to create something that she considers beautiful. And although she rarely works from a preconceived concept or design, her tropical surroundings are, whether consciously or subconsciously, still clearly of influence on her work. With careful precision, she creates apparently fragile, yet dynamic forms that seem to reflect the beauty as well as the force of nature.

Her sculptures are usually composed of various thin sheets of clay that she brings together in flowing compositions with graceful curves and extended tips, occasionally attached to a base made of Surinamese wood. Once in a while however, guided by her intuition and a need to experiment, she creates shapes that are quite different, and occasionally she also creates beautiful round vases, usually with narrow necks. Once her works are bisque fired, she alternately finishes them in acrylic paint or glazes in either surprisingly bright colors or warm earthy tones. Thus, Hanka Wolterstorff creates a wide variety of graceful and organic sculptures with a contemporary and universal appeal.
