Green Connections: Surinamese Artists in Bienal das Amazônias 2025

We are especially proud to announce that artists Rinaldo Klas, John Lie A Fo, and Remy Jungerman have been selected for the II Bienal das Amazônias – Verde-Distância (Green Distance). The Bienal das Amazônias strives to amplify voices and initiatives from the Pan-Amazon region—and in this second edition, also from the Caribbean—by providing a platform for encounter, debate, and expression, connecting contemporary art with cultural, social, and ecological issues.

Chief curator Manuela Moscoso, deputy curator Sara Garzón, and co-curator Jean da Silva selected 75 artists and collectives based on the concept of Verde-Distância (Green Distance)—a poetic idea by Brazilian novelist Benedicto Monteiro that connects the infinite shades of green in the Amazon to the spatial and emotional distances between people, landscapes, and times. Using dreams as a starting point, the Biennial shows how artists bridge these green spaces, where the body and the living world converge as resonant spaces of interconnected ecosyste

The II Bienal das Amazônias will take place from August 26 to November 30, 2025, at the Centro Cultural Bienal das Amazônias (CCBA) in Belém, the capital of Brazil’s northern state of Pará.
