KENKI SKIN | Past meets Present

‘Stored images,
sometimes from a gray past,
take shape in the here and now’ [PH]

Readytex Art Gallery is pleased to invite you to the special exhibition KENKI SKIN | Past meets Present. The exhibition features work by guest artist Peter Holman, alongside works by Sri Irodikromo, Miguel Keerveld and Rinaldo Klas.

Peter Holman has lived and worked in Suriname since 2019, following a decades-long career in visual arts built in the Netherlands. In 2022, he participated in three different exhibitions at the gallery by invitation. Those experiences, combined with his special bond with the late Soeki Irodikromo, inspired him to approach the gallery for this exhibition. KENKI SKIN | Past meets Present is now a reality, showcasing work from his Dutch period alongside works created in Suriname, and work from the three artists associated with Readytex Art Gallery (RAG).

With the title KENKI SKIN, Peter Holman refers to his use of various materials and how they force him to push his artistic boundaries. He experiences this even more intensely in Suriname:
“My brain is always full of images and events. That hasn’t changed. What has changed is their transformation into objects. In the Netherlands, it was made easy for me to obtain all kinds of materials, whereas here in Suriname it is much more difficult, forcing me to look for alternatives.”
While the themes of his work from the Netherlands have partially remained, in Suriname, he is closer to nature, and his work has gained a more profound cultural context.

Regarding the three artists Peter Holman selected to join him, he states: “All three are people I hold dear in my heart and appreciate; in their work, I recognize something of my own, in a different way.”
Sri Irodikromo for the materials she works with and the deeper layer of Javanese culture in her art.
Rinaldo Klas for his perspective on Surinamese culture and his ideas regarding flora, fauna and the role of humanity within them.
Miguel Keerveld for the powerful imagination of his personal vision of life within his artistic expressions.

KENKI SKIN | Past meets Present is a fascinating exhibition where the works of these four artists ‘meet’ in an inspiring way. We warmly welcome you to the opening at Readytex Art Gallery, on Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 pm.

The exhibition will be on view from Friday, May 8 through Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Readytex Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, and on Saturday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.
