As with all his presentations, the artist once again offers you a stunning visual experience, inspired by Suriname, its people, heritage and spiritual wealth.
This time he works on a vast scale: a painting measuring 5.65 by 2.80 meters, an installation of 50 maurs (wedding crowns), and a sculpture...
Fifty years of political independence, a historic milestone marking the period during which Suriname has sought and followed its own path. Visual artist Sunil Puljhun puts it this way: “My work explores that path, along the dream of sovereignty and the reality of an independent existence.”
Starting Saturday, October 18, Readytex Art Gallery will present a selection of new works by Sunil Puljhun in which he visualizes Suriname’s own journey. The dream is expressed in the bright colors of several...
Continuity, Survival, and Renewal
This exhibition brings together a selection of works by contemporary Surinamese artists that reflect on the cyclical forces of life, culture, and nature. Across diverse materials and forms—painting, drawing, mixed media, and sculpture—the artists explore how memory, identity, and resilience persist through times of rupture and change.
Continuity emerges in works that honor heritage, indigenous worldviews, and ancestral knowledge. Survival reveals itself in the expressions of strength and resistance that echo through personal and collective histories. Renewal...
Readytex Art Gallery proudly presents Waka Tjopu: Echoes of a Movement – a remarkable retrospective on a compelling chapter in Surinamese art history.
This exhibition brings together the still-active members of the artist collective Waka Tjopu – perhaps for the very last time. The result is a unique visual account of their shared commitment to raising social awareness and promoting cultural decolonization during the turbulent 1980s of the young Republic of Suriname.
The name Waka Tjopu – derived from a Surinamese...

Dear art friends,
We kindly invite you to explore several recent and captivating works by Kurt Nahar. In these creations, the artist takes you on two profound inner journeys.
The first journey is a spiritual exploration of his roots: “As a person of mixed heritage, I feel how my diverse ancestors, at different times, urge me to delve into what I carry within me through them.” After examining his Afro-Surinamese heritage, he turned his attention to Hindustani culture and religion—an aspect...
